Sedation Dentistry

It's important to know that a visit to the dentist can be a positive experience regardless if it is for a simple cleaning or more extensive treatment. Nearly 30% of Americans are afraid of the dentist. They avoid dental care at all costs, even when they are in pain or discomfort. But it no longer has to be that way! Modern dentistry offers several options for safe, effective, and comfortable treatment to anxious and fearful patients.

At the offices of Dr. Romaine and Associates and the Bedford Dental Health Center, our staff is trained to work with fearful patients and we offer oral and nitrous sedation alternatives.

Oral sedation. After a thorough review of your medical history the dentist will prescribe an appropriate medication to be taken prior to your appointment so that you may feel less anxious during your dental treatment. The medication may make you feel drowsy, though still awake. You will be required to have another person drive you to and from your appointment.

Nitrous Oxide, often referred to as laughing gas, is an effective anesthetic drug that is commonly used in many dental offices and the effects are often remarkable with little to no side effects. A patient that was anxious just a minute or two before treatment will become relaxed and calm. If you are nervous before dental treatment, ask about nitrous.

So don't keep pushing your needed dental work off!
Our doctors will evaluate if one of these two sedation options are appropriate for you and will help make your dreaded appointment feel like minutes in the chair.
